Celebrating One Year of Success: City College Norwich Lecturing Programme

Construction East and City College Norwich are celebrating the first anniversary of their innovative Professional Co-Delivery Lecturing Programme, a pioneering initiative that has strengthened the connection between industry and education across the construction sector.

Launched as a pilot in 2025, the programme was designed to address a critical regional challenge: ensuring students gain not only theoretical knowledge, but also real-world, industry-led insight. Over the past year, the programme has successfully brought experienced construction professionals into the classroom to co-deliver key elements of the curriculum alongside college lecturers.

The results have been overwhelmingly positive. Students have benefited from direct exposure to current industry practices, while teaching staff have gained valuable opportunities to enhance their own professional knowledge. This collaborative approach has helped bridge the long-standing gap between education and industry, ensuring learners are better prepared for the demands of the modern construction workplace.

The success of the programme at City College Norwich reflects a broader need across the Eastern Region. Employers continue to highlight the importance of developing a highly skilled workforce with both technical competence and practical understanding. By integrating industry expertise directly into teaching, the programme has demonstrated a powerful and sustainable way to meet that need.

This milestone would not have been possible without the commitment and support of industry partners, lecturers, and stakeholders who have contributed their time, expertise, and enthusiasm. Their involvement has been instrumental in shaping a programme that is already making a meaningful impact on students and the wider sector.

While further funding has not yet been secured to expand the programme through CTEC, the success of the past year has laid a strong foundation for future growth. Construction East and its partners remain committed to continuing delivery at City College Norwich, while actively exploring opportunities to extend the model to additional colleges across the Eastern Region.

Looking ahead, the ambition is clear: to build on this success and create a scalable, region-wide approach to industry-integrated education. By doing so, the programme aims to play a key role in addressing skills shortages, raising professional standards, and supporting the next generation of construction professionals.

As the programme enters its second year, Construction East, City College Norwich and their partners look forward to continuing this important work, strengthening collaboration, supporting learners, and shaping the future of construction education in the region.
